Stuffed Au Gratin with Creole Fried Chicken & Sausage

Ingredients:

  • 4 medium-sized potatoes (thinly sliced)
  • 1 ½ cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 ½ cups deboned fried chicken (shredded or cut into bite-sized pieces)
  • 1 cup thinly sliced sausage (smoked & cooked on skillet)
  • 1 tbsp butter (for greasing the dish)
  • Magic™ Poultry Seasoning, Cayenne, & Black Pepper
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (for topping)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven:
    Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare the Dish:
    Grease a baking dish with butter.
  3. Layer the Ingredients:
    • Arrange a single layer of thinly sliced potatoes at the bottom of the dish.
    • Sprinkle with Magic™, cayenne, & black pepper.
    • Add a layer of fried chicken pieces.
    • Sprinkle a layer of shredded cheese on top.
    • Repeat but use the sausage on the second layer.  
    • Ending with a layer of potatoes.
  4. Prepare the Cream Mixture:
    In a saucepan, gently warm the heavy cream and milk over medium heat. Do not boil.
  5. Assemble and Bake:
    • Pour the warm cream mixture evenly over the layered dish, ensuring the liquid reaches all corners.
    • Top with sharp cheddar and grated Parmesan cheese for a golden crust.
    • Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  6. Uncover and Broil:
    Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly, and the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.
  7. Serve!
